Plumber

Job Summary

Classification: Nonexempt

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long term career in the plumbing trade. An apprentice or journeyman plumber performs skilled technical work in installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in mostly industrial settings. Apprentices will learn hands-on under the guidance of experienced, licensed plumbers. The journeyman plumber will train apprentices in industrial plumbing settings.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation of commercial plumbing systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and industrial buildings
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and install pipes and fittings (PVC, copper, cast iron, steel) under supervision
  • Help install and service commercial fixtures such as restrooms, grease traps, floor drains, and water heaters
  • Assist with pressure testing, inspections, and system start-ups
  • Load, unload, and transport tools, materials, and equipment to job sites
  • Maintain job site cleanliness and comply with OSHA and company safety policies
  • Follow blueprints, schematics, and verbal instructions
Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Enrollment in or willingness to enroll in a state-recognized apprenticeship program once one year of employment is completed
  • Interest in commercial construction and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work on active construction sites
  • Basic understanding of hand and power tools (or willingness to learn)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and has reliable transportation (preferred)
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn commercial plumbing methods and codes
  • Ability to take direction and follow safety procedures
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various conditions
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, in industrial, commercial, or construction settings
  • Requires standing, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in tight spaces
  • May involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, and hazardous materials
