Job Summary

Classification: Nonexempt

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in the pipefitting and fabrication trade. The Journeyman Pipefitter performs skilled technical work in the fabrication, installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of multiple types of systems including: domestic water, heating water, chilled water, natural gas (both threaded and fusion welded), steam and condensate, compressed air, hydraulic, food grade sanitary, along with many more process piping systems. This role requires strong technical skills, the ability to read blueprints and schematics, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and maintain piping systems according to blueprints, specifications, and codes
  • Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, and weld pipe using hand and power tools
  • Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical documents
  • Perform pressure testing, leak detection, and system inspections
  • Troubleshoot and repair piping systems and components
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations
  • Work collaboratively with foremen, supervisors, engineers, and other trades
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work environment
  • Mentor apprentices and less experienced pipefitters as needed
Qualifications and Skills

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent is required
  • 5 plus years of experience
  • Journeyman Pipefitter certification or completion of an accredited apprenticeship program is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of pipe materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, etc.)
  • Proficiency in pipefitting tools, equipment, and welding techniques (as applicable)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, OSHA, local codes)
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various environments
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
  • Ability to take direction and follow safety procedures
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team environment
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Welding certifications (TIG, MIG, Stick)
  • Strong understanding of hydronic piping systems
  • Strong understanding of process piping systems
  • Experience in industrial or commercial construction
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, in industrial, commercial, or construction settings
  • Requires standing, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in tight spaces
  • May involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, and hazardous materials
