HVAC Technician

Job Summary

Classification: Nonexempt

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in the HVAC trade. Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technicians perform skilled technical work in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. HVAC apprentices and journeyman technicians also comply with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of refrigerants, chemical substances and materials.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation systems
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment
  • Perform routine planned maintenance to ensure optimal system performance
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Ensure all work complies with local codes, regulations, and safety standards
  • Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner
  • Communicate clearly with customers about system issues, repairs, and maintenance recommendations
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation
  • Handle tools, equipment, and refrigerants safely and responsibly
Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred
  • EPA Section 608 Certification required or willingness to earn
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, in industrial, commercial, or construction settings
  • Requires standing, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in tight spaces
  • May involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, and hazardous materials
  •
